Governor Scott VETOES Alimony and Time Sharing Bill By Debra Sutton on April 15, 2016

SB 668 would have substantially modified Florida's alimony provisions effectively, and in most circumstances, terminating permanent alimony.  The Bill would have provided a mathematical formula for computation of support establishing a range for the court's consideration upon evidence of multiple other factors.  The Bill also would have provided the premise that children should spend equal time with both parents, causing many concern that the impact would be time sharing schedules establishing a literal 50-50 basis between the parents.  Such could have made children full-time travels particularly where there were geographical distances between parents.  Additional concern existed for cases where domestic violence issues were present.
