Making Informed Decisions for Your Family Members
When a family member has a disability, they may need help making important decisions and caring for their personal affairs. There are three types of guardianship you can request to help disabled children and adults:
- Guardians of the Property have the right to make decisions regarding a disabled person's estate and take care of their finances.
- Guardians of the Person have the right to make healthcare, residency, and other life decisions.
- A Plenary Guardianship is a guardianship over the person and their property.
Different situations can lead to a need to establish a guardianship. Many times, parents of disabled children establish guardianship to protect their child into adulthood. Sometimes adult family members are involved in accidents that diminish their ability to make decisions.
We all have the inclination to protect the people we love. Contact an experienced lawyer to discuss your situation and find out if a power of attorney or guardianship is the right solution.
We are available in our office between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm during the week. Appointments may be available at other times under special circumstances.
